Getting started
What is Orphia?
Orphia is a piano practice app for the sheet music you already own. Photograph a page, and Orphia turns it into a score that follows you as you play — marking every note, finding the patterns behind your mistakes, and giving you short drills to fix them.
What do I need?
An iPad, iPhone or Android tablet or phone, and a digital piano or MIDI keyboard connected by USB or Bluetooth. A tablet on the music stand is the nicest way to use it; phones work in landscape.
Most digital pianos made in the last decade have MIDI. If yours has a USB port marked “USB to Host”, or Bluetooth MIDI, you're set.
Can I use an acoustic piano?
Orphia is built around MIDI, which tells it exactly which key you pressed and when — that precision is what makes the feedback trustworthy. A microphone mode for single-note melodies is in testing, but for now a digital piano or MIDI keyboard gives the real experience.
Is Orphia for complete beginners?
Orphia works best if you can already read a little music and want to play real pieces — returning players, students between lessons, and self-taught players. If you're just starting out, Wait mode and note names help a lot, but Orphia isn't a game-style course that teaches piano from zero.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play your first piece as a guest. If you create a free account later, your pieces, practice history and streak come with you to any device.
Scanning sheet music
What sheet music can Orphia read?
Printed piano music — books, photocopies, and PDFs. Handwritten music isn't supported yet. Clean, well-lit pages give the best results.
How do I get the best scan?
Lay the page flat in even light, fill the frame with the page, and hold still until the camera says it's sharp. The in-app camera guides you through it.
The scan got some notes wrong. Can I fix it?
Yes. Open the piece and use the review screen to compare the score with your photo and correct clefs and key signatures. If a page went badly wrong, rescanning it in better light usually helps most.
How many pages can I scan?
Free includes 3 pages a month, and Pro includes 150. Your allowance renews at the start of each month, and practising pieces you've already scanned is always unlimited.
Is it OK to scan music I bought?
Orphia is for practising music you own or have the right to use. Your scans stay private to your account — they're never shared or published.
Practice and feedback
What's the difference between Wait and Follow?
In Wait mode, the score holds on each note until you play it — perfect for learning the notes. In Follow mode, the score keeps time and you play along, which is how you build the piece up to tempo.
How does Orphia know what I'm doing wrong?
Your keyboard tells Orphia exactly which notes you played and when. Orphia compares that with the score across your runs and looks for patterns — like rushing in the same bars, or missing the same accidental — then tells you what it found, where, and how sure it is.
Does Bluetooth make my timing look late?
It doesn't have to. Keyboard timing calibration measures your connection's delay in a few seconds and takes it off your timing, so a slow link is never counted as playing late.
Plans and billing
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free gives you unlimited practice, 3 scanned pages a month, your top finding after each session and one drill a month. Pro scans up to 150 pages a month and unlocks every finding, unlimited drills, longer daily plans with spaced reviews, your skill profile, and replays of every run.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — the annual Pro plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You won't be charged if you cancel before it ends.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google. On iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it.
I bought Pro on another device. How do I get it back?
Sign in with the same account, then open Plan and tap Restore purchases.
Privacy and your data
What happens to my data?
We keep your scores and your practice history so Orphia can coach you. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and the microphone never records you. Read the full privacy policy for the details.
How do I get a copy of my data, or delete my account?
In the app, go to Settings → Privacy & account. You can download your data or delete your account there — or see the delete-account page for how to do it without the app.
Ready when you are.
The best way to find out is to play. Orphia is free to start, and you don't need an account.
